Health & Safety in stormy weather….

Health and safety in bad weather means companies have other responsibility’s. Simple things to check are outside lights ensuring people can move around in safety. Check now while the weather is ok, check drains are not covered in leaves to prevent flooding, clear rubbish away mid-afternoon before people leave off. Have maintenance and facilities staff check round 30 mins before work, think about loose items in carparks and gardens, tie down or lock away, be more flexible with dropping off or collection of staff in no parking areas, quick inspection of trees to check branches and trunks specially with heavy rain and at the moment trees with laden leaves, supply brolly stands in receptions to prevent water dripping through offices, think about having a mop and bucket to clear foot traffic water in walk ways and reception areas to prevent slippage. Encourage car sharing and have available train and bus timetables. Ensure windows are closed and doors are check to ensure door closures are correctly set, so as not to blow in strong winds, Be aware of overhead lines and potential dangers. May be ensure a couple of torches are available in reception to assist people getting to cars.
